Ledges Shelter Guide
Ledges Shelter
Ledges Shelter is Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s most well-known and popular picnic area. It is a large shelter, holding 75 people indoors with eight indoor picnic tables, perfect for family gatherings, birthday parties, summer camps, park events, trail races, and so much more. In addition to an ample enclosed shelter space, the large outdoor area is perfect for even more guests (up to 150 between indoors and outdoors).
It has an indoor wood-burning fireplace, potable water, electricity, eight indoor picnic tables, and bathrooms, making it usable all year. Outside, you’ll notice eight outdoor, enclosed picnic tables around the shelter, a handful of charcoal grills, unisex bathrooms, and animal-proof garbage cans.
Families and kids will also love the vast open field space, perfect for baseball, football, concerts, and any other game. The vast parking lot fits all guests’ needs (approximately 50 cars can fit). Your kids can also bring their bikes and ride around the open field or closed gravel trail.
And if you’re a history buff, you’ll love the educational signs by the shelter and around the Ledges Trail. Also, you can explore the surrounding area for early settler remnants.
Finally, this is a centralized location for the famous Ledges Trail. Numerous other trails connect to these two trails that can be accessed from the Ledges Shelter parking lot.
Alternative Option
While the Ledges Shelter is a fantastic picnic area, it can be incredibly popular all year. Not only that, but it has to be reserved sometimes months in advance.
If you want a shelter with all the same amenities but without the crowds, look no further than theĀ Octagon Shelter. This shelter has the same amenities as the Ledges Shelter: more available dates, more trails to explore, and arguably a nicer inside.
It is also central to popular park attractions, including the Ledges Trail and Pine Grove Trail.
