If you prefer to avoid crowds, it is recommended that you ride the train in November. If you want to experience an authentic holiday experience closer to Christmas, you should buy tickets in mid to late December. It should be noted that these tickets sell out almost immediately to the public.

To begin your Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad North Pole Adventure, you will want to arrive at the Independence (Lock 39 Trailhead) parking lot 30 minutes before the start of your ride. It is highly recommended that you wear your favorite Christmas t-shirt or pajamas. You can then take your time, walk around, and even venture to the Towpath Trail.
Once the train arrives, you and your family will notice the excitement building. Follow the elves and Santa’s helpers as they assist you on the train. As you enter your assigned seat, you will see that the train has been decorated with presents, a garland, and other festive decorations.
As the train leaves the depot for your two-hour tour, hot chocolate and cookies will be passed out to you and your family. Your children will also be given cards and coloring utensils to make Christmas cards to deliver to Santa.
As the train ride continues and your children finish their snacks and cards, you will begin to hear the “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” As your children are captivated by this story, Santa will quickly visit each child to learn more about them and what they want for Christmas.
You will soon arrive at the “North Pole” in Peninsula, where you can walk around, visit numerous exhibits, and take a picture next to the giant Christmas tree. This display is truly spectacular. New this year is the Christmas Tree Forest and the Candy Cane Farm.
You will then return to the train and take the 1-hour ride back to Independence. Enjoy the beautiful ride through the National Park and enjoy a memorable time with your family.
